Saudi Airlines had a comprehensive plan to build its own city in Jeddah, and the hospital was to be recognised as an iconic landmark. The initial plans were to build 200 beds in the first stage and 200 beds in the second stage. However, the feasibility studies recommended that the hospital be designed with 400 beds in one stage.

The project was located on a land area of 30,000 m2, and consisted of seven floors above ground and two basement floors. It included radiology departments, laboratories, pharmacies, outpatient and emergency clinics, major operation rooms, an intensive care unit for adults and children, a cardiac unit, a special unit for the treatment of airline employees, individual and double hypnosis wards, a special centre for infertility treatment, and a department of obstetrics and gynaecology. The target group of the project were the Saudi Aviation Company employees and their families, as well as the public.
