The primary purpose of the Jordan Red Sea Project is to deliver a reliable source of drinking water to Jordan, which ranks as the 4th poorest country in the world in terms of its water resources. A secondary purpose of this project is to arrest and possibly restore, to some extent, the declining Dead Sea water level.

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has contracted AJi through its Project Development Management unit, in association with MWH as transaction advisors and program managers, who are responsible for the implementation of the JRSP based on the preliminary studies and development plans that were released in 2008 by AJi, previously Arabtech Jardaneh, and MWH.

With the multi-billion-dollar funding needed for this project, key components of the JRSP project are commercial, industrial, and business developments. The objectives of the JRSP developments are to provide reasonable and achievable revenues to support the JRSP project-finance model and to stimulate economic growth in Jordan.
